Coming Through is a night for soulful, raw, and left-of-centre dance music. Whether it’s international artists or local talent, the focus is on DJs with deep selections, diverse sounds, and unique ways of approaching the dancefloor. For this instance, we’re bringing together three selectors who each have their own way of moving between sounds, scenes and rhythms. Afrodisiac has, through expressions of sound, writing and movement, crafted a style that is undeniably her own. While listening to her standout Cosmic Sonic series, we were really intrigued by the way she creates worlds where different sounds converge. Somewhere between contemporary African sounds and modern dance music, she pulls music from different corners of the Black cosmos and curates sets that are fresh, soulful and personal. Also known as Mo, Mr Mojo Risin’ brings movement and depth to the room. Being curious and having experienced dance floors across the world, combined with his ability to read crowds and tell stories, the vibrations will be transmitted. His style moves between different rhythms while remaining grounded in groove and sounds that touch the soul, traversing 90s Chicago drum machines, Ibiza’s true Balearic dreams, New York’s Afro-Cuban deepness, funk, hip-hop, amapiano, broken beats and beyond. NothingDoing, the curators of this night, are none other than Fellagha and Starfunkel in their duo debut. The two have been brought together by a shared love of music and a remarkably similar taste, which has already seen them embark on different projects, from the party series Slang to the podcast Spacetimesound. Becoming a DJ duo feels like a natural progression of that musical relationship. Above all, they share an obsession with rhythm and a love for everything soulful, funky and raw. Their selection takes them from Latin and Brazilian sounds to Afro-inspired music, the house, techno and electro of New York, Chicago and Detroit, London’s broken beat and garage, and much more. With an everything-goes approach, they’re here to bring you the tunes you didn’t know you needed.
