Peter Somuah was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, where he discovered the trumpet at a young age. He became fascinated by the melodic power of the instrument, influenced by highlife, Afrobeat and jazz. In his musical journey he found inspiration from greats such as Ebo Taylor, Hugh Masekela and Miles Davis – artists who transcended genres and borders. After moving to Rotterdam, he found a home in the city’s vibrant jazz and improvisation scene. Here he developed his own sound and founded his band. His debut album Outer Space was awarded an Edison Jazz Award and established him as an important voice in the jazz world.
